At South Valley Junior High, home of the Sabercats, we are pleased to welcome students to a new phase of their education. Junior high is a transition time for our students physically, emotionally and academically. At South Valley Junior High we prepare our students to be successful with a variety of academic, athletic and support services.     Yesterday in Sabercat Sports…

     

     

     

    The 7th grade softball team played their best game against Mesquite but came up short losing 6-2. Defensively, Jadyn Warren led the Sabercats serving up 6 strikeouts. Makayla Kantarze was fierce behind the plate and threw out 2 runners attempting to steal second. Adyson Fater was a vacuum at shortstop cleanly fielding and throwing out 5 hitters. Maggie Rogers made an awesome catch in left field. Jenna Werner was amazing at first base. On offense, Makayla Kantarze ripped a homerun, Bria Duffy smacked a double to the outfield, Jenna Werner scored a run following a walk, Meghan Urakawa hit a single, and Adyson Fater went 2 for 3 with 2 singles. The entire team should be proud of their efforts and progress this season...well fought ladies!

     

     

     

    8th grade basketball won last night in our first round of playoffs. The Sabercats beat the Desert Ridge Rattlers 41-35. Thank you to everyone in attendance for cheering out team onto a victory. Come out and show your support again next Monday when we go head to head with Highland Junior High.  

     

     

    7th Grade Boys Basketball will play in the Semi Final Game on Monday, February 8th at Highland Junior High at 5 pm. They will play Mesquite Junior High. If they win they will go to the Final Championship the very next day.  Please come out to support your team!

Miss Elly Orrin will be here after school on Tuesday, February 9th in the library. We are requesting a $5 donation which will be used to send as many World War 2 veterans to Washington D.C. with Honor Flight Arizona. Most of these people, including Elly, are 80-90 years old! Please sign up with your social studies teacher as soon as possible. Seating is limited. You won't want to miss this!

     

     

     

    Attention: Any students interested in a future career with animals. The Phoenix Zoo is hosting a Teen Career Conference February 13th from 12-3. The event is $10 and requires a registration, so see Mrs. Winn in Room 420 if you have any questions. 

     

    Attention students!  The spring Clothing Cycle begins soon!  Go through your closet and find old clothes, stuffed animals, and bags.  We also accept many other household items.  Ask your parents for help with the drive too!  Drop off your bags to the library starting February 10.  Not only does this keep unwanted items out of the landfill, but you help the library raise money for new books!  So, get busy cleaning your room this weekend and help out the library!  Please see Mrs. Vogt if you have any questions.

    Yesterday in Sabercat Sports…

     

     

    The eighth grade softball won their final regular season game yesterday against Gilbert.  Pitcher Lucy Hansen gave up only one hit while striking out four Tiger hitters.  Leading the offensive charge were Anyssia Gomez, Emmy Feininger, and Savannah Walker who all had three hits each.  Lucy Hansen, Alyssa McCann, and Leticia Padilla each had two hits.  Audra Glass also contributed a hit in the win.  Congratulations ladies on a very good regular season!  Good luck in the playoffs!

     

     

     

    This Wednesday is the Wrestling superstition conference tournament at Desert Ridge High school in which the Sabercats look to come out as champions!  Best of Luck!!

    The wrestling team was in Tucson this past Friday and Saturday for the State Tournament.  Out of 60 teams the Sabercats placed 4th as a team!  Individual placers were: Noah Wasserbeck state runner-up and Schuyler Allen, both placing 2nd! Jayden Fletcher placed 3rd and Nathan Hall  placed 4th.  Overall excellent team effort.  This Wednesday is the superstition conference tournament at Desert Ridge High school in which the sabercats look to come out as champions!  Best of Luck!!

     

     

     

    Congratulations to our Cross Country team.  The girls finished 2nd in the Superstition Conference Meet and the boys finished 3rd.  Way to go team.

    Yesterday in Saber cat sports:

     

    8th Grade Basketball pulled off a nail biting win over the Desert Ridge Rattlers last night 42-37 in over-time. Thank you to all of the student, staff, and families who were in attendance and cheered our Sabercats on to victory. GO CATS!!!  

     

     

    Great effort of offensive scoring and defensive rebounding at yesterday's game against Desert Ridge Junior High.  Just wasn't enough, score ending, Sabercats 47 -  Rattlers 63. 

     

     

    The wrestling team came out ahead of Desert Ridge winning 48-39 in a hard fought battle to run their record to 9-0.  Winning on JV were: Conor Walsh, Tristen Guevara, Eliseo Mendias, Ibrahim Mousa, Kyle Decker and Derek Spaeth. Varsity winners were:  Mac Jones, Eddie Llona, Cody Weaver, Nick Rieck, Noah Wasserbeck, Jayden Fletcher, Nathan Hall, Kyle Laughter and Big Jake Leighty (pronounced Lick-tee). Come out and see these guys in the last match of the season at home on Tuesday.

     

     

    The eighth grade softball team played their best game of the season yesterday to beat a strong Desert Ridge 9 to 8.  Anyssia Gomez hit a two run homerun to cap off a five run first inning.  Tessa Sims drove in the game winning run with a two run homerun in the bottom of the fifth.  Bailey Anderson and Lucy Hansen each drove in a run.  Tatum Fernandez, Miggy Vargas, and Makayla Jones each added key hits.

  • Message from the nurse: Parents with students that suffer from asthma: Lets work together to keep your student safe! The asthma and allergy season has shown no mercy this year.  If your student has suffered from asthma symptoms in the past, regardless of how long ago, please complete a consent form for your child to carry his/her inhaler.  The forms can be found in the health office.  Remember to check the expiration date on the inhaler and replace if needed.  Thank you!
