7th grade band Text book Essential Elements for Band Book 1
This course is a study ofbeginning to intermediate music fundamentals. Included in this skill set are note recognition, identification of keysignature and independent rhythmic reading. The class is taught with the use of traditional and contemporary bandmusic. Other features of this course areparticipation in school assembly programs and evening concerts. This course if for students who have at leastone year of musical instruction.

The intent of thiscourse is to encourage students to achieve competency in two to three part singing. This course is a study ofbeginning and intermediate music fundamentals: sight-reading skills with emphasis on solfege, good intonation, soundproduction and performance skills. Theintent of this course is to achieve competency in areas of unison to three partsinging. Special attention is given tounderstanding and development of the boy’s changing voices. The chorus also serves as a schoolrepresentative at various community, district and statewide events.
Orchestra 8 - Text Book Essential Technique 2000 Book 3
This course studies intermediate and advanced orchestra ensemble techniques. Bow technique, such as spiccato, martele, hooked bows, and marcato are developed while improving intonation and tone on an individual and collective basis. This orchestra competes in a state-wide ABODA festival and earns ratings as well as rehearses with a professional clinician to enchance the orchestra experience. The 8th grade orchestra performs at school assemblies, has 4 main evening concerts and also performs for Gilbert's 6th grade orchestra festival, which promotes growth through orchestra leadership.
Orchestra 7 - Text book Essential Technique 2000 Book 3
This course is a study of beginning and intermediate music fundamentals. Techniques such as tuning, shifting and vibrato are introduced with an emphasis on correct playing posture and tone development. Musical repertorie includes classical, pops and fiddle music. The Orchestra 7 ensemble performs at school assemblies and at 4 evening concerts throughout the school year. This course is preferred to have at least one year of musical experience, but the beginnings are allowed at the teacher's discretion.

This course is a study ofadvanced and fundamental technical development and large ensembleperformance. The major topics covered inthis class are: intonation, balance, articulation and generalmusicianship. Appropriate performancetechniques are taught and exemplified throughout the concert season. Other features of this course areparticipation in school assembly programs and evening concerts. This course is for eighth grade students whohave played their instruments for more than a year.

GJHS Drama Course Description
Creative drama characteristically develops the whole student by encouraging the uniqueness of the individual. Using the 5 senses, imagination, physical body, speech, emotion and intellect, students will experience a variety of fun performance activities.
Art and drama clubs are after school enrichment classes that support and emphasize the art and drama curriculum. Art and drama clubs meet once a week.
