(Gilbert, Arizona) -- Construction crews and volunteers have been working through the summer at the new Gilbert Classical Academy campus to get it ready for the new school year.

The former Gilbert Junior High School campus is undergoing remodeling to bring in hundreds of GCA students.

On Saturday GCA staff held a move-in party where more than one hundred volunteers, including students and their families, showed up to help organize, clean up, and move items.

The Gilbert Public Schools' Governing Board voted 5-0 in May to close GJHS. It also voted unanimously to move GCA into the junior high’s building.

Last school year GCA celebrated its 10th anniversary. The school operated since 2007 out of its original campus at Greenfield and Elliot.

Due to its academic success the school went from 200 students in grades 7-9 to more than 500 in grades 7-12.

Recently the U.S. News and World Report ranked GCA the 30th best public high school in the United States.

The new GCA campus is located at 1016 N. Burk Street, in Gilbert.
