(Gilbert AZ) -- Gilbert residents gathered on Tuesday evening in a public forum to meet the final candidates for the position of Gilbert Public Schools District Superintendent.

The event was facilitated by the Arizona School Boards Association in the Campo Verde High School auditorium.

The four finalists included Dr. Anna Battle, Dr. Steve Chestnut, Dr. Shannon Goodsell and Mr. Shane McCord. Each of the candidates responded to questions submitted by the public surrounding key education topics including but not limited to; student retention, staff recognition, improving academics, community involvement, extracurricular activities and why they wanted to serve as the next Superintendent of Gilbert Public Schools.

Earlier in the day, each of the candidates took part in a second round of interviews with all five members of Gilbert Public Schools Governing Board.

Following the forum, attendees had the opportunity to meet the four candidates and at 8:00 p.m. the Governing Board adjourned to executive session to deliberate on the candidates.

At 9:45 p.m. the Governing Board reconvened and in a 5-0 vote offered the position of District Superintendent to Mr. Shane McCord.  The starting date of his contract is unknown at this time.
