GPS Governing Board Brief – November 28, 2017
Campo Verde Boys Cross Country Team members are Zack Prusse, Avree Anderson, Christian Tamura, Rylan Stubbs, Kenny Edwards, Zac Whaley, Mac Jones, and Wyatt Hanson.

(Gilbert, AZ) -- The Gilbert Public Schools Governing Board held its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday night. Prior to the meeting, the Board convened an Executive Session to discuss the potential appointment of Ms. Dawn Antestenis as Director of Marketing and Public Relations.

Following the Executive Session, District Superintendent Mr. Shane McCord recognized seven high school students, including an athletic team, and three staff members. Highland High students Isaac Smith, Kyla Yetter, Leo Daschbach, Caroline McLeskey, and Campo Verde High students Rylan Stubbs, Alaina Kautz, Chandler Romney were all recognized for their outstanding accomplishments in music and athletics.

The team recognized was the Campo Verde Boys Cross Country Team, whose members are Zack Prusse, Avree Anderson, Christian Tamura, Rylan Stubbs, Kenny Edwards, Zac Whaley, Mac Jones, and Wyatt Hanson.

The first administrator Mr. McCord recognized was Desert Ridge Junior High Principal Ms. Jean Woods. The Association of School Psychology recently named Ms. Woods 2017 Administrator of the Year. Also recognized were Executive Director of Secondary Education Mrs. Missy Udall, and Executive Director of Elementary Education Mr. Shawn McIntosh. Earlier this month, the Arizona School Personnel Administrators Association named them both 2017 Administrators of the Year.

The meeting continued with the presentation of the Superintendent’s Report, and the unanimous approval of Ms. Antestenis’ contract to serve as the new Director of Marketing and Public Relations effective December 5, 2017.

Continuing with other items on the Agenda, with a 5-0 vote, the Board approved the 2018-2019 course description books for all high and junior schools in the district, Gilbert Classical Academy (7-12), and Global Academy.

The Board voted to approve the three district’s goals for the years 2017-2019. The goals set are increasing​ ​academic​ ​achievement​ ​and​ ​student​ ​performance; student​ enrollment​ ​management; and, attracting,​ engaging​ ​and​ ​retaining​ ​high​ ​quality​ ​personnel.
