Burk Activities

Student Government

The students who are involved with Burk Student Council must meet high academic criteria, demonstrate good character, and have their peers’ approval.  The Student Council is involved in many activities and events to help the school and community throughout the year.  Last year, Burk Student Council sponsored a food drive, ran “Hats On Day” to benefit the Children’s Cancer Society, collected pennies for patients, raised money for the school’s Helping Hands Christmas tree, and offered Candy Grams and a Spirit Store for the students.  We are very proud of these present and future leaders.

Ticket 2 Read

Students of Burk have the unique opportunity to participate in an exciting computerized reading program.  Students are actively engaged in reading silently and answering comprehension questions to improve reading levels.  Ticket 2 Read also teaches phonics, vocabulary, and sight words.  Kindergarten students meet on Mondays after school, 1st Grade on Thursdays, and 2nd Grade on Tuesdays.  Students meet in the computer lab from 2:45-3:30 p.m.  Parents can also use this fun and valuable program at home with their child.

Reading Plus

Burk students in fourth grade are participating in a computer reading club.  The Reading Plus Program teaches focus skills for comprehension, fluency, and retell.  Students meet after school on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 2:45-3:30 p.m.

Bobcat 3rd/4th Grade Chorus

Boys and girls in grades three and four are invited to participate in the Burk Elementary Chorus.  Chorus meets during the first semester (August through December) after school on Thursdays from 2:45-3:30 p.m. in the music room.  The chorus will perform at school and local events.  Specific dates are posted on Mrs. Hamilton’s Teacher Page “Music Calendar”.  As a natural extension of the weekly general music class, the Bobcat Chorus gives students the opportunity to further develop and practice musical and performance skills.  Join chorus and meet other students, learn about music, and sing from your heart!
