What is Gilbert Accelerated Middle School?
Gilbert Public Schools introduces Gilbert Accelerated Middle School at Gilbert High School, a unique opportunity for 7th and 8th-grade students, to be challenged academically, in a supportive environment built on a love of learning, preparing students for a successful future in high school and beyond.
What is Gilbert Accelerated Middle School?
Students are immersed in honors and accelerated curriculum with access to the resources of a comprehensive high school, while in a supportive cohort of other 7th and 8th-grade students. The learning experience is both academically rigorous and well-rounded, based on the application of knowledge and reflection, project-based learning, critical thinking, cross-curricular portfolio building, and student-centered learning approaches. Students gain access to the instructional expertise of high school/college-level faculty and are encouraged and supported to develop strong leadership and study skills, preparing them for a successful future in high school and beyond.

What is the enrollment process?
Gilbert Accelerated Middle School students are given a placement exam as part of the enrollment process. Please see our Gilbert Public Schools Junior High Placement Instructions for additional information.
If you are interested in enrolling please complete this registration form and schedule a tour.
At both the elementary and secondary levels, the physical capacity of the school building and classrooms; availability of staff; capacity in special programs; and availability of other resources may be considered before placement of a student into a district-wide program or school is approved.

What courses are available?
We offer core Honors classes in Math, Science, English, and Social Studies. In addition, all students are required to enroll in a Performing Arts class (Band, Choir, Orchestra).
8th graders also enroll in a World Language class, while 7th graders have the opportunity to enroll in a Critical Thinking and Problem Solving class.

What is offered for Performing Arts?
Students are required to participate in a Performing Arts program at Gilbert High which includes either Band, Choir, or Orchestra.

What is the bell schedule?
All Gilbert Accelerated Middle School students will follow our Gilbert High School high bell schedule.

Are there school bus routes offered to and from school?
Yes, there are a range of routes available with select stops district-wide.

Where are students located on campus?
The majority of classes are located in a specific area for Gilbert Accelerated Middle School. Students also have classes in various locations on the Gilbert High campus, giving them access to high school-level labs and facilities.

Is there a dress code?
Yes, there is a dress code that includes school-selected color polo-shirts and other clothing.

Is there access to athletics?
We do not offer sports as part of Gilbert Accelerated Middle School. Students will have the opportunity to join a wide variety of clubs on campus at Gilbert High.

How will lunch work?
Students will have a separate lunch in a dedicated part of the campus, where students will eat together. Lunch break will be supervised and include structured activities as well as time to eat.

Does my child need to be in ALP or Gifted classes in order to qualify for the Accelerated Middle School?
No. Gilbert Accelerated Middle School students are given a placement exam as part of the enrollment process. Please see our Gilbert Public Schools Junior High Placement Instructions for additional information. What is the difference between the GTC (Gifted, Talented, and Creative) program at Highland Junior High and Gilbert Accelerated Middle School?
All 8th grade students will have the opportunity to earn high school credit in both Math and World Language courses. GTC is open to students who test as gifted. The Gilbert Accelerated Middle School program is academically rigorous with honors level courses, taught by high school teachers.
