Dan Hood, Principal

My name is Dan Hood and I am extremely proud to be the principal of this Exemplary High Performing National Blue Ribbon School.  I am extremely proud of our students, faculty, and staff and all they have accomplished in the past 12 years.

I have lived in Arizona for the past 40 years, graduating from Mountain View High School in Mesa.  From there I obtained my bachelor's degree at Arizona State University, masters at Northern Arizona University, and am currently working on my doctorate through Grand Canyon University.  Entering my 26th year of education and my 9th year as an administrator I have seen many changes in the educational landscape. Gilbert Classical Academy is an answer to the changes in the landscape providing a choice for parents who want their children to not only be ready for college but to thrive in college.  The best part of my job is to watch students come into GCA as 7th-grade elementary students and leave as very independent, competent, articulate, and socially aware young adults ready to succeed at their next level.

  • Gilbert Classical Academy is a 2018 National Blue Ribbon School.

Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos recognized 349 schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2018 based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.

  • GCA Math Club attended the Scottsdale Community College Math/Science competition. The project team of Derek Scandrett, Kris Amerman, and Matthew Hannah won 1st place building a roller coaster per specifications. The roller coaster had to have a loop and a hill. The objective was to send a marble down the roller coaster that would stop as close to the end without falling off. Their 1st run was the winning run. All 3 won a scholarship to SCC and a Barnes and Noble gift card. Also, Jamie Li received the highest score for GCA on the math exam and 1st place for Algebra II receiving a scholarship to SCC and Barnes and Noble gift card. Congratulations to all students who participated.
