Adult Education – Registration Locations, Times, and Announcements

  • Spring Semester 2020 Enrollment Process

    GED & ELAA

    • Evening classes only: Tuesday/Thursday from 5–8:30pm
    • Classes will be limited to 25 GED students and 36 ELAA students 
    • Priority will be given to currently enrolled students 
    • January registration will NOT occur due to all classes already being at capacity, as of December 6, 2019.
    • A waitlist will be created.  If a seat opens up, the Adult Education Office will notify the individual to complete the necessary paperwork and pay the required $50 fee.
    • To be added to the waiting list, please fill out the interest form with your contact information. You will receive a confirmation email once you are added to the waitlist.

    Mandatory Adult Learning Class Registration Information

    All students must attend registration prior to enrolling in a class. 

    ABE/ASE/GED
    You must be at least 16 years old and withdrawn from high school to enroll in our GED classes. Minors need to attend registration with a parent or legal guardian.

    ELAA 
    At registration, students are tested and placed in the appropriate level. ELAA student registration is a three-day process. Students fill out registration paperwork on the first day as well as take a short locator test, and on the second day and third day, the full battery of tests are given.

    To register for a program, you need to bring the following items to registration:

    1. Official Photo ID (List of approved identification proving legal U.S. residence or citizenship)   
    2. $50.00 Payment (payable in the form of a money order or cashier's check only). Accepted forms of payment include either a money order or cashier’s check made out to Gilbert Adult Learning Program. No cash, personal checks or debit/credit cards are accepted. Please note: A registration fee will be charged every quarter. The fee must be paid by money order or cashier’s check before testing. Fee(s) are non-refundable. 
    3. Proof of household income if you are applying for a reduced registration fee. A reduced registration fee is offered to students who qualify (fill out the Reduced Registration Fee Form). Note: The reduced fee is based on the verification of a student's household income and the number of family members in the household. The reduced fee will be $20, $30 or $40. We do not offer free classes.

GED and Adult Basic Education/Adult Secondary Education (ABE/ASE) Classes

  • The Gilbert Adult Learning Program offers GED and Adult Basic Education/Adult Secondary Education (ABE/ASE) classes to help you prepare for the GED exam or to provide enrichment in the following areas:

    • Language Arts (Reading & Writing
    • Math
    • Science
    • Social Studies
    • College and Career Readiness

    Our ABE/ASE/GED classes are designed to address the diverse educational needs of adult learners. We offer small class instruction in all four test areas and also have computer software, textbooks, and worksheets to complement your study plan.

    When a student enters our program, standardized assessments in reading, writing and math are administered and the student's lesson path is determined. Individual assignments are made based on the results of these assessments. Students must attend registration prior to enrolling in a GED class. Classes are scheduled during the morning and evening to accommodate your schedule.

English Language Acquisition for Adults (ELAA)

  • The Gilbert Adult Learning Program offers English Language Acquisition for Adults (ELAA) classes to provide instruction for people who desire to learn or improve their English language proficiency in order to enter the workforce or pursue post-secondary opportunities. Students who do not speak English as their first language will learn reading, writing, speaking and listening skills as well as computer literacy. College and career exploration, in addition to civics education, are topics also embedded in our curriculum. 

    ELAA student registration is a mandatory three-day process prior to enrolling. Students fill out registration paperwork on the first day as well as take a short locator test, and on the second day and third day, the full battery of tests are given. The overall registration process takes approximately 4 hours. You will not be placed in a class if you do not attend registration and testing.
