Gilbert Public Schools is committed to providing Digital Citizenship education, resources, and support to the students, staff, and families of Gilbert Public Schools. GPS students and staff will become responsible digital citizens who know how to harness the learning potential of digital media in a 24/7 connected world. GPS students will be able to experience digital learning in a safe, monitored environment, and learn to use online tools safely, effectively, ethically, and respectfully.
Common Sense Education Curriculum
Since the 2015-16 school year, Gilbert Public Schools has been providing digital citizenship curriculum to our schools, grades K-12, via the Common Sense Media platform. Common Sense Media has recently updated its curriculum. The lessons are updated to take on timely topics that students are experiencing in the online environment and also been updated to accommodate online delivery via GSuite and Google Classroom. This integration will allow our teachers to have the option of using different methods of delivery from traditional handouts to online access.
For the 2019-20 school year, Technology Services will partner with the GPS Student Support and Prevention team to provide additional support, training, and leadership. Counselors, Social Workers, and Technology Integration Educators will all be part of providing digital citizenship assistance to GPS Classroom Teachers, Librarians, and Campus Administrators K-12.
Gilbert Public Schools would like to welcome parents and guardians to preview the updated Common Sense Media Digital Citizen curriculum and provide feedback. The feedback will be presented to the Governing Board at the August meeting.
