Review your 4-year Academic Plan and 10th-grade course requests in Infinite Campus and make sure the two plans line up with your current goals.
Although it is an easy temptation, do not pick classes based on what your friends have selected. Select programs that interest you and that spark curiosity.
Discuss your course selections with parents/guardians/teachers/counselors. Ask the experts about classes – and the people that know you the best – what they would recommend for you. Plus, discussing your plans and goals with trusted people in your life can help hold you accountable.
Check Your Credits
-
Are you on track with your credits?
If you are taking six courses plus a lunch, at the end of your first semester you should have three credits. At the end of the school year you should have six credits, and so on.
To stay on track for graduation without the need of summer school or online classes, you should be completing three credits a semester and six credits a year. How did you do?

Explore Career & Technical Education (CTE) Pathways
Did you know that Gilbert Public Schools supports a diverse selection of CTE programs at all of our high schools? Through enrollment in CTE classes, you can explore a number of areas of occupational interests and pursue a career focus in depth while completing your high school diploma. Many of the CTE programs and classes are aligned with similar courses at local community colleges and are available for credit at both the high school and a community college simultaneously.
CTE programs are unique among high school course offerings as they provide:
- Hands-on learning in laboratory-based experiential instruction
- Work-based learning, relating the technical instruction and practice to what happens in the real world of work
- Personal leadership development opportunities
- Reinforcement of academic skills related to the technical area of study through real-life applications
Learn more about what CTE classes are offered at your school!
Do your plans involve attending EVIT?
If you are considering applying to East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) for your Junior Year, you will need to submit an application along with your transcript, attendance, and discipline records.
Consider Taking Advanced Classes
-
Honors Classes
Honors classes are college preparatory classes that allow you to accelerate your learning and begin to prepare you for college-level work. These classes will challenge your critical thinking skills. Learning solid time management skills will help you become more effective while taking on this added rigor.
Advanced Placement (AP) Classes
Advanced Placement classes are college-level classes. AP teachers must be approved by the College Board to teach the AP curriculum ensuring that all AP classes are equitable and meet college criteria. If you take an AP course, you will take an end-of-the-year AP exam in May. Depending on your score (1-5), and the school you plan to attend after high school, you can potentially earn college credit.
To learn more about earning college credit through AP exams, visit College Board or AZ Transfer for score equivalency guides, and visit What is AP? College Board Advanced Placement to learn about Advanced Placement courses and tests.
Dual Enrollment Classes
Dual Enrollment classes are college classes that you take in high school that allow you to pay community college tuition and get college credit at the same time. As long as you earn a C or better and pay the college tuition, you will receive the community college credit.
Speak with your Counselor if you would like information about possible financial assistance for a Dual Enrollment course and visit Maricopa Dual Enrollment for more information.

SMART Goals Worksheet & Information

SMART Goal Worksheet (doc)
A Brief Guide to SMART Goal Setting!
A SMART goal is a goal that is specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time based. In other words, a goal that is very clear and easily understood.
Specific
The goal must clearly state what is to be achieved, by whom, where and when it is to be achieved. Sometimes it may even state why that goal is important.Measureable
Measurability applies to both the end result and the milestones along the way to attaining a goal. It answers the question of quantity – how much, how often, how many? The milestones are signs along the way that will tell you that you are on the right track to achieving your goal.Attainable
You should ensure that the goals you set are achievable. You must believe that you can manage to do what you are setting out to do. If you set goals that are unbelievable even to yourself it is very unlikely you will achieve them.Relevant
Your goals must be relevant to what you want to achieve in the short term and the long term.Time-based
This sometimes overlaps with the goal being Specific, but it aims to ensure that you put a time-frame to your goals.
