IMPORTANT UPDATE REGARDING RETURNING TO SCHOOL 2020/21 SCHOOL YEAR - JULY 1, 2020
Dear Gilbert Public Schools Parents and Families,
Last night, Gilbert Public Schools Governing Board approved the district Task Force plan for the 2020/21 school year. Central to the plan is flexibility and choice, offering three high-quality learning models simultaneously that parents and families can choose from to meet their individual needs. All three models are designed to deliver academic excellence and opportunities for continued education throughout the entire school year, independent of circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following Governor Ducey’s Executive Order, announced June 29, our Governing Board and district leadership have already begun reviewing the details of the executive order and how this will impact the beginning of the school year. At last night’s meeting, the Governing Board approved welcoming back all of our students on our original start date of August 5th with the intent for all students to begin the school year learning online, working with their classroom teacher. Students who select the full-time on campus option or Flex option will then transition to their selected learning model on August 17th or the date that the Governor declares school can return to in-person. Those students that select GPS Global Academy as their learning model will begin the school year in that model.
As we all know, the conditions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic are continually evolving. Please be assured that our plans will be constantly evaluated to adapt, with the best interests of our students at the forefront of our minds. Our goal is to keep our community as informed as possible and we appreciate your patience and support as we continue to work diligently to support the ongoing education of our students and a safe and supported return to school.
More specific details will be provided regarding the beginning of the school year early next week. Registration for the three learning models will open Tuesday, July 7th. In the meantime please visit our Task Force Update page on our website to view the board presentation and preview the three learning models. As information becomes available and decisions are made we will continue to update our community. If you cannot find the information you are looking for on our website, questions can be submitted to email@example.com.

June 29, 2020 - Governor Ducey's Announcement and Governing Board Meeting Reminder
This afternoon, June 29, Governor Doug Ducey announced the start date for Arizona schools in-person will be pushed back to August 17, 2020. For the most up to date information regarding this announcement please visit the Office of the Arizona Governor’s website. As a district, we will be reviewing the Executive Order from the Governor's Office and what this means for our plans for the beginning of the school year. Please expect more detailed information in due course.
As we have already informed our parents and families, our task force plan for beginning the new school year will be presented to our Governing Board tomorrow evening, June 30, at 6:30pm. As of today, our plan consists of three learning models that our students and families can choose from. Please be assured that this plan has been designed with flexibility at its core so that we can respond to the exact scenario we find ourselves when school begins. We will, of course, continue to monitor this rapidly evolving situation and as we receive new information we will continue to make decisions in the best interests of our students, families, and staff. Following the meeting, tomorrow night, more detailed information will be available on our website. Please expect frequent updates via email, our website www.gilbertschools.net and on social media.
Thank you again for your ongoing support as we work together to support the health of our students, families, and the wider community.
