Department of Operations, Gilbert Public Schools District

About Maintenance & Operations

  • Gilbert Public Schools Maintenance and Operations Department is committed to keeping all district facilities and grounds safe, clean, and functional for students, staff, and visitors.

Gilbert Public Schools District maintenance staff, comprised of electricians, heating and air conditioning technicians, carpenters, locksmiths, plumbers, and special systems technicians, repair and maintain over 4.8 million square feet of school space in 298 buildings including over 13,000 tons of heating ventilation, and cooling equipment. The maintenance department also oversees remodeling projects and ensures they are completed on time and within budget.

Gilbert Public Schools District grounds staff maintains over 800 acres of school grounds. Grounds crews also maintain playground equipment and make sure it is inspected for safety. The maintenance and grounds departments are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week for emergency repairs that can arise from storms, vandalism, and other sources.

As Gilbert Public Schools District facilities become more sophisticated, the Operations Department strives to keep our maintenance workers trained and up to date with changes in technology. In addition, we test new products in the industry to determine those that can best meet the needs of the District. We have implemented the Arizona School Facilities Board preventive maintenance program, designed to better maintain and prolong the life of our facilities.

AHERA (Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act) Management Plan

  • An AHERA Management Plan is required by Federal law and is intended to prevent exposure to asbestos during general operation and maintenance activities. It describes the location and condition of asbestos-containing building materials and documents their removal and repairs. Schools must update their AHERA Management Plans with information collected from their periodic surveillance every 6 months, re-inspection of building for asbestos-containing materials every 3 years, and response actions taken within the school. A copy of the AHERA Management Plan is located at each school and in the Maintenance and Operations office. For questions or additional information, please contact the Environmental Supervisor at 480-373-0465.
