Traditional Kindergarten Prep Overview
Traditional Kindergarten Prep is a program for four-year-olds, the year before Kindergarten, designed to give a jumpstart on their Traditional educational pathway. This 20 student program is taught by a certified teacher who has been trained in traditional curriculum and methodologies, with a classroom assistant to support the students. A partial day program offering morning and afternoon is available at Neely Traditional Academy and a full-day program is available at both Canyon Rim and Spectrum Elementary.
Traditional Kindergarten Prep students will participate in a primary language arts program based on the Spalding Method using 'The Writing Road to Reading' (2012). It is a phonics-based program with an emphasis on oral phonogram practice. The mathematics program, Math in Focus, is a comprehensive program that develops strong algebraic concepts and problem solving skills. Science, music, art, and physical education are introduced daily through hands-on discovery and other intentionally developed activities. Kindergarten Prep is aligned with the Arizona Department of Education Early Learning Standards, and is supplemented with: Handwriting Without Tears, We Thinkers! Social-Emotional Curriculum, STEM, and Unplugged Coding activities.
Registration for 2023-2024 opened November 1, 2022!
Traditional Kindergarten Prep Locations
Partial-day Program: Neely Traditional Academy 8:15 AM - 11:15 AM (Monday - Friday) and 12:15 PM - 3:15 PM (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday)
Full-day Programs: Canyon Rim Elementary and Spectrum Elementary Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM with Wednesday Early Release at 2:00 PM.
