Comment: I was notified one day before the start of school that Mesquite Jr High failed to hire a Spanish teacher for 7th grade. My child's schedule was then changed to 2 PE periods instead of one PE and one Spanish. Seems unprofessional to wait until the last minute to notify parents as well as not to give a choice of a different elective.

Comment: TI would like to express my concerns about the large class sizes for the accelerated classes at Highland Park Elementary. I was surprised to find out that the class sizes are even larger than expected, 33 in a third grade class and 28 in 1st grade! How do you expect these kids to excel with this many kids in their classes? How do you expect the teachers to thrive and help the kids learn and grow with these large classes? How do you expect these kids to enjoy school when they are one so of many?

Comment: As a parent of a child in the accelerated program at Highland Park, I have concerns about the way the program is being run. My son has been in the program for 3 years now, and this year has 33 children in his 3rd grade class. The other 3rd grade classes at the school have 26-28 students. This program is made to meet the needs of high learning children. With such an excessive student to teacher ratio, it is not possible for the learning needs of these children to be met.

Comment: The mandatory Student ID Badges are completely useless and will do nothing to keep our kids safe. just be more of a headache for students, teachers, and parents. Please abandon this new experiment asap as we do not want to participate in more freedoms taken away in the name of safety. Gilbert School Board really cared about keeping our kids safe they would arm competent police officers, security guards, and personnel at the schools. That alone would detour gunman from targeting our schools

Comment: We HATE that school is starting today! It’s too hot and summer break is hardly any time. Why are we going back so early? We need to go back after Labor Day. Giving 2 weeks in the fall/spring does not justify taking 5 -6 weeks of summer. Completely unnecessary, especially when schools don’t have the money to spend on longer school years ex. Running a/c, staff, etc…
