Public Comment 1
Submitted by: Greg Tonkinson
Live or Work in the District: Yes
Child(ren) attending a GPS school: Yes
Comment: Our son takes EVIT until 10:28 am each day from Gilbert HS. He is constantly late for 5th period which begins at 11:27 am. He claims a number of excuses. Almost every day I receive a phone call and email alerting me that my son has an unexcused absence. I am willing to accept that he does in fact have an unexcused absence, but that isn’t the case pragmatically. There are no real consequences. There is a real problem with EVIT students showing up on time and there are no consequences.

Public Comment 2

Comment: Why do the schools not require a background check for parent volunteers? My other daughter goes to a charter school and they have a full time armed security guard on campus all day and require parents if they wish to volunteer pay for a $5 background check. I would be more likely to send my daughter to the public school if they took the safety of the children into consideration more.
