  • BioScience (BioMedical) – CTE Program of Study (pdf)

The BioScience program prepares individuals to apply scientific principles and technical skills in support of biologists and biotechnologists in research, industrial, and government settings. Includes instruction in fermentation technology, cell culturing, protein purification, biologic synthesis, assaying and testing, quality control, industrial microbiology, bioprocessing, chromatography and bioseparation, genetic technology, laboratory, and hazardous materials safety, and computer applications and test equipment operation and maintenance. The program is designed and delivered as a coherent sequence of experiences using technical instruction, academic foundations, experiential learning, supervised occupational experience and leadership and personal development through the Career and Technical Student Organization, Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA).

How has CTE positively impacted your high school experience?

"The longer I was in classes and the more involved I was, the more I saw the beauties of BioMed and the vast opportunities to understand various subjects in-depth, from antibiotic immunity to fetal diagnostic tests."

What are some skills that you’ve gained from BioScience?

"Tangible skills range from PCR and Pipetting to Gel Electrophoresis and running an EKG. Intangible skills is having GRIT, a constant monthly reminder to have GRIT. I never really thought about GRIT consciously, but I have unconsciously with my own goals, why they’re relevant, who I am inspired to be, gratitude for those that help me, and more in this deep reflective way that I never really tied them all directly to GRIT. Do you have a favorite memory, lesson, or class project from BioScience?

My favorite memory was when we went to Quartz Hill to teach the 3rd graders about the digestive system because we were able to take what we were learning and share it creatively with others.

Why would you recommend CTE courses to your peers?

I would recommend CTE courses to those that have an interest that aligns with an offered CTE program, whether it be Biomedical Sciences or Photography, or any other passion.

How has BioScience positively impacted your high school experience?

It gave me a community of like-minded students to grow with throughout my four years in high school.

BioMedical Sciences at Campo Verde High School

  • Campo Verde High School Biomedical Sciences Gilbert AZ CTE The Campo Verde High School BioMedical Sciences mission is to inspire teamwork, curiosity, “out of the box” thinking, and real-world problem-solving. Students will be exposed to careers related to science, emphasizing allied health care and biomedical engineering. The CVHS BioMedical Sciences program will implement a three-tiered approach: Project-Based classroom instruction that is rich, varied, and challenging, where students “learn by doing”, real-world experiences such as guest speakers, company tours, school projects that involve the community, and service of others through numerous community service projects.
