Nutrition Services Updates
Effective immediately, the USDA has extended free meals for children through December 31, 2020 to help ensure all children have access to nutritious food as the country recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic. Gilbert Public Schools will provide combo meals at no cost to children 18 and younger for breakfast and lunch. A combo meal includes and entree, fruit vegetable and milk. Incomplete meals and a la carte items will be sold at regular price.
If your child attends GPS Global Academy, or any child under 18, please pick up meals once a day between 7–9:30 am at a nearby elementary school only.

About Nutrition Services
The Gilbert Public Schools Nutrition Services Department is made up of an experienced team of nutrition professionals that are dedicated to providing our students with the best possible dining experience.
We are proud to employ three excellent Registered Dietitians on our staff with over 50 years of combined experience in school nutrition service.
We participate in a nutrition service system called "Offer versus Serve", offering a variety of healthy choices to our students each day including whole grains, fresh fruits & vegetables, lean meats, and low-fat milk.
Free and reduced-price meals are available to families who qualify. Please fill out a Meal Application to apply.
We offer 5 different food components at lunch: Fruit, Vegetables, Grains, Milk, and Protein. Students select at least 3 food items from 3 different food components including 1/2 cup of fruit/fruit juice, or vegetables.
We offer 3 different food components at breakfast: Fruit, Grains/Protein, and Milk. Students select at least 3 food items including 1/2 cup of fruit/fruit juice.
For a balanced meal with the best nutrition, we encourage our students to select food items from all of the offered food components.
Our district's wellness policy focuses on supporting healthy eating and physical activity in the school environment to promote and protect our students' health, well-being, and ability to learn.
Special Dietary Needs
GPS Nutrition Services employs three Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) who work with other health professionals to create customized diets for students who have special dietary needs. Complete our Special Dietary Needs Form and return it to the GPS Nutrition Services Department. The form must be completed by a physician, physician assistant, registered dietitian nutritionist, or nurse practitioner.

Free and reduced-price meals are available to families who qualify. If your family chooses to apply, please fill out a Free & Reduced Meal Application.
Did you know that if you qualify for assistance through the National School Lunch Program (NLSP), you may eligible to receive fee waivers for the SAT/ACT exams, some College Applications and fee reductions for AP Exams?
From the College Board:
"The College Board fee-waiver service assists qualified, economically disadvantaged students who plan to take the: SAT/SAT Subject Tests/PSAT/NMSQT/AP Exams. A student must be either enrolled in or eligible to participate in, the National School Lunch Program (NLSP) in order to receive a fee waiver. Schools participating in new federal programs such as Community Eligibility may not be able to use the NLSP criterion to identify and verify individual student fee-waiver eligibility. However, several other criteria or indicators can still be used to confirm eligibility for fee-waiver benefits."

Nutrition Services – Join the GPS Team!
Gilbert Public Schools is hiring for part-time positions on an on-going basis. Please view employment website to apply for all open food service positions.
What we offer:
- Daytime shifts from approximately 9:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m.
- Weekends and summers off
- Pay of $12.52 per hour plus a free lunch
You must meet the following criteria:
- Able to lift 25–40 lbs. frequently
- Have reliable transportation
- Have proof of MMR immunization (No proof required if born before 1957)
- Obtain a current Food Handler's Card
