Applicants Sought to Fill Vacancy on the Gilbert Public Schools Governing Board Audit Committee: 

The Primary function of the GPS Audit Committee is to assist the Board of Education in fulfilling its financial oversight responsibilities to include strengthening the District internal financial controls and to assist in providing greater transparency regarding the District stewardship of taxpayer dollars. This committee is made up of no more than two Board members and up to three at large positions. The three at large positions will fill a 1, 2 or 3 year term to be determined at the first organizational meeting for Fiscal Year 2020. This is a non-paid volunteer position.

The Committee’s specific responsibilities and goals are to:

• Review and appraise the application of accounting, financial and operating controls.
• Ascertain extent of compliance with established District policies, plans and procedures.
• Review the District annual audit and Comprehensive Annual Financial Report in cooperation with the District external auditors.

The Audit Committee shall meet at least quarterly and report to the District Governing Board semi-annually, or more often as needed. Members have initial appointments of 1 year. The committee will operate under conditions of the Arizona Open Meeting Law, ARS 38-431 and ARS 431-01.

Qualifications

Public members of the Audit Committee shall, through education or experience, possess the knowledge in accounting, auditing, financial reporting, and school district finances needed to understand and evaluate the Gilbert Public Schools  financial statements, external audit, as well as District internal control processes and procedures.

The School Calendar Surveys are now closed.  Thank you for participating.

In April 2023 we are seeking feedback from both our parents/guardians and our employees to determine the school calendars for the 2024-25, 2025-26, and 2026-2027 school years.  All parents and employees will receive an email inviting them to complete a short survey with their choice.  One survey completion will be accepted per household.

As stated in Governing Board Policy IC, 'The school year shall not be less than 180 instructional days and the Board shall establish the school calendars two years in advance after recommendations from the Superintendent.'

Below you will find the draft calendars and some more information to support you in completing the survey.

Calendar Options for the 2024-2025, 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 School Years

The first calendar option, called 2-2-2, has the following characteristics:

• This mirrors the current 2022-2023 school year calendar as well as the upcoming 2023-2024 school year calendar.

• School begins the third or fourth week in July depending on the school year.

• Two weeks of Fall Break.

• The first semester ends prior to Winter Break.

• Two weeks of Winter Break.

• Two weeks of Spring Break.

• School ends prior to the Memorial Day weekend.

• Community Education provides various childcare options for families during the summer and during the two week Fall and Spring Breaks.

• All surrounding school districts including EVIT will be using a similar 2-2-2 calendar for the 2023-2024 school year with the exception of Mesa Public Schools which is using a 1-2-1 calendar for the 2023-2024 school year.

The second calendar option, called 1-2-1, has the following characteristics:

• This mirrors the Gilbert Public Schools calendars last used for the 2021-2022 school year.

• School begins the first week of August.

• One week of Fall Break.

• The first semester ends prior to Winter Break.

• Two weeks of Winter Break.

• One week of Spring Break.   

• School ends prior to the Memorial Day weekend.

• Community Education provides various childcare options for families during the summer and during the one week Fall and Spring Breaks.

• Mesa Public Schools is the only school district in the surrounding area using the 1-2-1 calendar for the 2023-2024 school year.
