Oak Tree Elementary’s Eric Rogers Honored for Exceptional Student Support, Recognized at GPS Governing Board Meeting

Oak Tree Elementary paraprofessional Eric Rogers was recognized at the August 25, 2026, GPS Governing Board meeting for providing immediate support to a student in a time of need. The student’s family contacted GPS and expressed a strong appreciation for the way Rogers guided and cared for the student through a car accident.

Rogers happened upon the scene after the accident occurred, prioritizing the student’s safety while keeping him calm and communicating with the family over the phone. He coordinated directly with emergency responders, making sure they were aware of the student’s specific needs and managing potential stressors to keep the student as calm as possible. His attentive care kept the student safe and reassured until his parents arrived.

"You make a difference every day," said GPS Superintendent Dr. Jared Ryan during the meeting. "You made a very significant difference in the lives of a GPS student and his family. They will always remember their experience and how you supported their son in his time of need. You showed a level of care and kindness that is to be admired and is inspiring to others."

The family shared their immense gratitude for Mr. Rogers, saying that he went above and beyond to protect and comfort their son.
