The Mesquite High School Orchestra and Dance Team were thrilled to be invited to Lindsey Stirling’s concert at the Footprint Center on September 9, 2024. A former student of the school, Stirling’s remarkable success serves as an inspiration while demonstrating the potential that current students have when they pursue their passions in the classroom and as part of their High School experience. The event provided a unique opportunity for Mesquite High students to witness firsthand the impact of their own educational experiences and to be motivated by the achievements of a fellow Wildcat.

"It's very rewarding to see a former student achieve such remarkable success. She's incredibly creative and has a powerful message to share that everyone should hear” said Sara Duce, an Orchestra teacher at Greenfield Junior High who taught Lindsey Stirling in 8th grade. “I got to be a small part of her journey and now I can share her story with my students, encouraging them to believe in themselves and chase their dreams."

Lindsey Stirling's rise to fame can be traced back to her roots in Gilbert, Arizona. In a 2021 interview with the Gilbert Sun News, she credited her upbringing in a supportive environment for fostering her creativity. "My parents also always encouraged creativity in our home, which is what made me not afraid to be a dancing violinist," Stirling said. During her time at Mesquite High School, Stirling honed her skills as a violinist in the orchestra and a dancer on the school's team, laying the foundation for her future success.

After seeing Lindsey Stirling's performance, the Mesquite High School Orchestra reflected on how the concert impacted them. "It was exciting and fun. It was huge and I can't even put it into words," exclaimed one student. Watching Stirling's innovative performance inspired the orchestra members to push their own boundaries and explore new musical techniques. "She does crazy things with her violin and it makes us want to push ourselves and what we can do with our instruments," another student shared. The experience also served as a powerful reminder to students that they are following in Stirling's footsteps. "She went to school here just like we are now. It makes us feel like we can do what she does," added another orchestra member.

"Lindsey Stirling's ability to combine violin and dance is incredibly inspiring," said Lisa Hammond, the Mesquite High School Dance teacher. "It helps my students see what's possible and to think outside the box. Watching her perform reminds them that they can find their passion, no matter how niche, and pursue it at school. They may even be able to make a career out of it."
