Gilbert Public Schools Career & Technical Education (CTE)
-
Gilbert Public Schools supports a diverse selection of CTE programs at each of our five comprehensive high schools.
Through enrollment in these programs, students can explore a number of areas of occupational interest (career clusters) and pursue a career focus in-depth while completing their high school diploma. Many of our CTE programs and classes are aligned with similar courses at local community colleges and are available for credit at both the high school and a community college simultaneously.
Our mission is to prepare students to:
- be effective and responsible;
- develop premier leadership qualities, high-level technical skills, critical thinking abilities, and employable work habits;
- choose a career field, formulate goals, work to accomplish their goals, practice positive work ethics, and; grow into a unique, productive citizen.
CTE programs are unique among high school course offerings as they provide:
- Hands-on learning in laboratory-based experiential instruction.
- Work-based learning, relating the technical instruction and practice to what happens in the real world of work.
- Personal leadership development opportunities.
- Reinforcement of academic skills related to the technical area of study through real-life applications.

CTE Performance Measures Results
-
The Arizona State Board of Education has approved a state accountability system that measures CTE program performance using a series of performance measures. The Perkins Act emphasizes state and local accountability. It establishes comparable student definitions and measurements for all CTE programs and is based on expectations that student performance will improve annually. Continuous improvement is expected in six core areas of emphasis. These areas include academic standards attainment, technical skill attainment, school completion, graduation, placement, and nontraditional students.
Gilbert Public Schools has continued to exceed the required level of State Performance in all areas. This is a testament to the hard work and dedication shown by teachers, counselors, staff, and administrators in helping to prepare our students for career and college readiness. It is also an indication of the quality of CTE Programs offered across the entire school district and the support provided by many local businesses and organizations.
