Adult Education – Registration Locations, Times, and Announcements

  • Important Dates:

    Between July 27-31, registration forms will be available electronically on this website & hard copies of registration packets will be available at the District Office (see address below).

    Intake (verification of paperwork & payment collection) will occur the next week, August 3-7 via appointment ONLY. Program staff will schedule appointments upon email receipt of paperwork or your phone call requesting an appointment. If you miss your scheduled appointment, please be aware you are not guaranteed a seat in our classes.

    Classes will begin the week of August 10th virtually.  The first week of class will include Orientation to various aspects of our program.  Attendance is mandatory.  You will receive more information about how to join class at your intake appointment.

    Late registration will only occur as space permits.

    All classes will begin the semester remotely (via WebEx & other websites) as suggested by the Arizona Department of Education. We will resume class in person as soon as we are safely able to. It will be necessary to have an electronic device (computer, tablet, smartphone etc.) to “attend” virtual classes. Attendance is required for virtual classes.

  • Important Registration Information

    Mandatory Adult Learning Class Registration Information

    Requirements:

    • You must be at least 16 years old and withdrawn from high school to enroll in our classes. Minors need to register with a parent or legal guardian.  
    • All students must register prior to starting in a class. 
    • You must be able to declare you are lawfully in the United States in order to take our classes.  
    • Regular attendance is necessary.  Class schedules are available at the bottom of the page.
    • Classes cost $50 per semester.  Accepted forms of payment include either a money order or cashier’s check made out to Gilbert Adult Learning Program. No cash, personal checks or debit/credit cards are accepted.  The fee must be paid by money order or cashier’s check before beginning class. Fee(s) are non-refundable.  A reduced registration fee is offered to students who qualify (fill out the Reduced Registration Fee Form), however you must provide proof of household income if you are applying for a reduced registration fee.  Note: The reduced fee is based on the verification of a student's household income and the number of family members in the household. The reduced fee will be $20, $30 or $40. We do not offer free classes.
    • Locator test information for appropriate class placement will be given during the first evening of class.

  • How to Register: 

    1. View the Am I Ready to Take Adult Education Classes (pdf) to determine if these classes are appropriate for you.
    2. Review the Form Instructions (pdf) and complete the Registration Form (pdf) in its entirety. You may fill it out electronically, print and complete, or pick up a hard copy of the form from the District Office to return in person at specified time (see below).
    3. Once the registration form has been completed, you may submit it in one of two ways by sending your completed form via email to gpsadulted@gilbertschools.net or bring completed form in person to the GPS District Office during designated times, below.
    4. If paperwork is submitted online, a program staff member will follow up with you via phone call, WebEx call, and/or email to ensure all information is correctly completed and to give you follow up information for starting classes.
    5. Program payment may be completed by money order or cashier’s check for $50, paid in person.

    Please Note: If you are returning paperwork or paying in person, you will need to email gpsadulted@gilbertschools.net or call 480-497-3334 to schedule an appointment. We will NOT have drop in times available. All registration must be done through appointment due to COVID-19 safety precautions. Please arrive promptly at your scheduled appointment time with completed paperwork and cashier’s check or money order to pay if it was not submitted electronically. Due to Maricopa County regulations and for the safety of our staff, you must wear a face mask to your appointment.

GED and Adult Basic Education/Adult Secondary Education (ABE/ASE) Classes

  • The Gilbert Adult Learning Program offers GED and Adult Basic Education/Adult Secondary Education (ABE/ASE) classes to help you prepare for the GED exam or to provide enrichment in the following areas:

    • Language Arts (Reading & Writing
    • Math
    • Science
    • Social Studies
    • College and Career Readiness

    Our ABE/ASE/GED classes are designed to address the diverse educational needs of adult learners. We offer small class instruction in all four test areas and also have computer software, textbooks, and worksheets to complement your study plan.

    When a student enters our program, standardized assessments in reading, writing and math are administered and the student's lesson path is determined. Individual assignments are made based on the results of these assessments. Students must attend registration prior to enrolling in a GED class. Classes are scheduled during the morning and evening to accommodate your schedule.

English Language Acquisition for Adults (ELAA)

  • The Gilbert Adult Learning Program offers English Language Acquisition for Adults (ELAA) classes to provide instruction for people who desire to learn or improve their English language proficiency in order to enter the workforce or pursue post-secondary opportunities. Students who do not speak English as their first language will learn reading, writing, speaking and listening skills as well as computer literacy. College and career exploration, in addition to civics education, are topics also embedded in our curriculum. 

    ELAA student registration is a mandatory three-day process prior to enrolling. Students fill out registration paperwork on the first day as well as take a short locator test, and on the second day and third day, the full battery of tests are given. The overall registration process takes approximately 4 hours. You will not be placed in a class if you do not attend registration and testing.
