Congratulations are in order for Gilbert Public Schools’ Director of Safety & Security, Allen Cain! He was named the 2022 K-12 Campus Safety Director of the Year by Campus Safety magazine, a nationwide publication featuring excellence in K-12 safety and security. The award was announced at the Campus Safety Conference East in North Bethesda, Maryland. Cain was selected for the great honor from a group of accomplished K-12 school safety directors from across the nation.
“I am truly honored and humbled by receiving the nomination and also by being selected to receive this prestigious award amongst so many qualified applicants. I am dedicated to creating safe and secure environments to help promote the achievement of Gilbert Public Schools educational objectives,” Cain said.
Cain has been working with Gilbert Public Schools for the past four years and has become an integral part of the GPS family. His notable achievements include the development and execution of a districtwide student-family reunification plan, implementing an anonymous tip line where anyone can report concerning behavior, the building of secured entryways on school campuses, and the installation of a high-tech enterprise camera system that provides coverage of the exterior and interior of GPS school buildings, currently being rolled out districtwide. The district is also in the process of adding video intercom systems to front offices at GPS elementary and junior high schools. Creating safe and secure learning environments for students and staff continues to be a top priority at Gilbert Public Schools.
“When you speak with Al, it is obvious that he is committed to the safety and wellbeing of our students, staff and community. Congratulations to Al and thank you for your kindness and dedication to Gilbert Public Schools,” said Superintendent Dr. Shane McCord.
Cain was secretly nominated for the honor by Sandy Christie, the administrative assistant for GPS Safety and Security. Christie notes Cain’s commitment to his job as why she believed him to be the perfect candidate for the award.
“For the last year, I’ve just seen all the changes he’s made. As a former parent who had three students go through the schools, I wish he’d been here then. He just cares so much,” Christie said.
