Truck Extravaganza draws GPS families and community to Greenfield Elementary

Gold celebrating the best of GPS!

The  Greenfield Elementary Gator Dads Club held its free community event last month to give families a fun place to gather and check out some pretty cool trucks. This year’s festivities featured trucks from Gilbert Police, American Furniture Warehouse, and a Pixar-inspired Pizza Planet Truck to name a few. A local group also provided families with ATV safety tips, and the big highlight of the night happened when the BannerAir medical helicopter landed on the school’s campus. Those in attendance were able to also purchase food from four local food trucks.

The Truck Extravaganza is one of many events organized by the club. Others include bicycle giveaways to Gator students, Donuts with Dads Club, restaurant nights, and charity golf tournaments. The Greenfield Elementary Gator Dads Club, a non-profit organization, works in collaboration with the school’s PTSO organization to host family-oriented events aimed at having fun, improving community relations, and bringing GPS students, families and teachers together in a social setting.

“We partner with the PTSO to support the needs of the students as well as the teachers,” said Jeff Henrichsen, president of the club.

The dads are not only active on their campus, but also in the Gilbert Public Schools community. Henrichsen says the club would like to team up with other dad organizations in the district, including the Falcon Fathers Club at Finley Farms Elementary.

“We’re always open to collaboration with other groups, and you know that’s just one of the examples that we hope to see in the next few years,” he said.
