Legacy Sports USA hosts field day event for Mesquite Elementary
Great memories are made at school. Some are made in the classroom while others are made on the playground. Legacy Sports USA helped students at Mesquite Elementary create new memories with their classmates during a fun and active field day. Coaches from Legacy led fourth, fifth and sixth grade students through a series of sports drills and games that helped build their skills in agility, coordination and teamwork.
The boys and girls participated in basketball shooting drills, soccer relays, and a head-to-head competition involving hula hoops and the game of ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors.’ As students were having fun, they motivated and cheered on their classmates. They also engaged with the coaches and gained new techniques.
Mesquite Elementary is one of two schools in the district that host Gilbert Public Schools’ Performance Academy. Fourth through sixth grade students attend the academy at Mesquite Elementary, while seventh and eighth graders participate in the program at South Valley Junior High. Both schools are A-rated by the Department of Education and recognized as A+ Schools of Excellence™ by the Arizona Educational Foundation®.
Students enrolled in the Performance Academy attend school in the morning and have access to training programs in the afternoon. The program is focused on creating an environment where students can excel academically and achieve excellence in their area of interest. Performance Academy students can attend the athletics training or performing arts facility of their choice, or have the option of participating in the Legacy Sports USA Sports Enrichment Program at Bell Bank Park in Mesa. Legacy’s program offers students access to 15 different sports programs, including basketball, baseball, cheer, dance, eSports, junior ninja warriors, pickleball, soccer and more.
