Augusta Ranch Rattlers giving back through Principal Academy

Celebrating the best of Gilbert Public Schools AZ

Principal Terrie Barnes from Augusta Ranch Elementary drops of donations at Friends for Life Animal Rescue in Gilbert, AZ.

Success and service go hand in hand at Augusta Ranch Elementary!

At the home of the Rattlers, students are committed to being the change in their community. Principal Terrie Barnes leads the Principal Academy. The program provides students with leadership and teamwork training while also encouraging them to make a difference through after-school service projects.

The Principal Academy makes blankets at Augusta Ranch Elementary School in Gilbert, Arizona.

70 students from the fifth and sixth grades are already getting busy just a few months into the school year. In September, they baked and packaged nearly 1,000 dog biscuits, wove together 28 fleece blankets, braided 280 dog chew toys, and crafted 40 cat toys. All of the items were donated to Friends for Life Animal Rescue in Gilbert.

For the Principal Academy's next service project, students are donating non-perishable food items, laundry soap, dryer sheets, and cheer notes to the Ronald McDonald House in Mesa. Those donations are going to be delivered next week.

All students who participate in the Principal Academy are committed to maintaining passing grades, not having any disciplinary issues, and showing the rest of their peers what it means to be a leader.
