A huge congratulations goes out to the Desert Ridge High School Jagwires, who successfully competed at the 2023 VEX Robotics World Championship! It is the largest robotics competition in the world, according to Guinness World Records. This year, the event welcomed more than 800 high school teams, representing more than 40 countries. The Jagwires, who are already Arizona state champions, faced off against teams inside the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, a 10,000 seat arena in the downtown district of Dallas, Texas.
Teams were divided into 10 divisions. The Jagwires and their robot, 99067B, competed in the Design challenge. They spent a day and a half participating in qualification matches. In a match for the division title, the Jagwires defeated last year’s world champions. For the tournament finals, the Jagwires faced tough competition from the nine other division champions. They didn't secure the world champions title, but still had plenty of reasons to keep their heads high, including the very impressive accolade of being among the top 10 robotics teams in the world.
Abhinav Jinka, Carter Stevens, Parker Scott, Parker Wakefield and Jace Reed represented the Jagwires throughout competition week. They were supported, near and far, by their coaches, teachers, administrators and families. All who say it was a pleasure to be on the journey with them!
