Two Campo Verde students among Flinn Scholarship Finalists
Campo Verde is one of four high schools in the state of Arizona with two Flinn Scholarship finalists this year. Congratulations to Evan Hankinson and Tori Barrera! Both seniors were chosen among the 39 students to go on to the final stage of interviews in March. Ultimately, 20 high school seniors will be chosen to be part of the 2023 Class of Flinn Scholars.
The Flinn Scholarship provides funding for students to any Arizona Public University for tuition, housing, meals and a study abroad experience. The scholarship is worth more than $130,000. Recipients are awarded based upon merit and given the honor by the Flinn Foundation. The students chosen for the program will attend Honors colleges at Arizona State University, Northern Arizona State University, and the University of Arizona.
Barrera and Hankinson are on track to graduate from Campo Verde in May. They will find out in April if they are chosen for the Flinn Scholarship. After high school, Barrera has plans to double major in biomedical engineering and business with an emphasis on non-profit organizations. Hankinson will also double major, focusing on biotechnology as well as Spanish language and literature. Both students were recognized by Superintendent Dr. Shane McCord and the GPS Governing Board at their meeting on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.
