More than a dozen GPS students chosen for the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Committee
Congratulations to our 15 Gilbert Public Schools students selected to participate on the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Committee for the 2023/24 school year! The high school students chosen for the program are from Gilbert Classical Academy, Gilbert High, Campo Verde and Highland High. To join, they had to commit to 10 months of participation, be willing to attend committee meetings and a Town council meeting, do community service, and be part of Student Government Days at Gilbert Town Hall.
“Mayor Peterson loves this community program and interacting with Gilbert’s young adults to learn more about how they see their world, their roles, and their future,” said Kirsten Morgan, the Mayor’s Aide, in an email.
In addition to meeting local leaders and members of the community, students also are able to connect with their peers from different schools. The committee is made up of 32 students, representing 14 different high schools. They either live in Gilbert, or attend a school in Gilbert.
Their first meeting was held on Tuesday, September 12. Meetings focus on enhancing leadership skills, knowledge of local government as well as addressing the theme for each year.
