Governing Board Brief - August 18, 2020

Governing Board Brief - August 18, 2020

The Governing Board met for a special governing board meeting, Tuesday, August 18, 2020.  The meeting began at 4:00 pm with a call to an Executive Session for discussion or consideration of matters relating to school safety operations or school safety plans or programs.

The governing board meeting was called to order at 6:05pm.

The meeting began with requests to speak to the Governing Board.  There were 30 requests to speak.

The following reports followed:

4.01 Review of most Current Health Benchmarks from Arizona Department of Health Services and Maricopa County Department of Public Health

4.02 Review and Discuss Phased In Approach Opening Plan

During discussion the governing board and district leadership highlighted their shared goal to return to in-person learning for our students, as soon as is safely possible.  It was determined that a previously approved governing board motion provides district leadership direction, authority, and support to plan for reopening schools safely in line with health benchmark data.  At this time, the district will move forward with the reopening plan above. Schools will reopen for in-person instruction with a hybrid model September 8, and for full-time in-person instruction September 21, contingent upon meeting health benchmarks. Students who do not wish to return in-person will have the option to continue to learn full-time online.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:25pm.
