Governing Board Brief - February 26, 2019
The Governing Board met for their monthly Board Business Meeting on Tuesday, February 26, 2019. The meeting was called to order at 5:30pm.
The first item on the agenda was a call for Executive Session pursuant to A.R.S. 38-431.01(A)(1) to discuss the potential appointment of Mr. Jason Failla as the Principal of Highland Park Elementary for the 2019-2020 School Year.
The regular board meeting was then called to order. Superintendent Recognitions followed approval of the agenda.
Superintendent Mr. McCord recognized the following staff and students at the meeting:
Bridget Goodner, agricultural educator at Gilbert High School, is one of only six individuals nationwide who received the National Association of Agricultural Educators Ideas Unlimited Award.
2019 District Oratorical Contest winners - Junior high division, Owen Reich (GCA), 3rd-6th grade division, Raina Braun (Finley Farms), K-2 division, first place Brynlee Jeppesen, (Boulder Creek), all who shared their powerful presentations.
This was followed by the Superintendent’s Report:
Congratulations goes out to Mackenzie Goldman from Highland High School and Savannah Marshall from Desert Ridge High School who were selected as 2019 Gilbert Sister Cities Ambassadors this month.
Pioneer Elementary GOLD PRODUCTIONS will hold their first ever production on Thursday, February 28th at 2pm and 6pm. This new performing arts club has over 50 students in grades 3-6. The students have all been practicing as a group and they each have specific roles and responsibilities.
Congratulations to our high schools that had the opportunity to compete in postseason play. Highlights include:
- Campo Verde: 5A Girls Soccer Champions, 5A Boy Soccer Runner Up, 5A Wrestling Heavyweight Champion - Trevor Kauer
- Gilbert High: 5A Boys Basketball Champion, 5A Girls Basketball Runner Ups
- Desert Ridge: Girls Wrestling State Runner Up - Grace Wietschak
- Mesquite High: 4A Girls Basketball Semi Finalists, Wrestling State Runner Up - Lewis Everett
