Dear Gilbert Public Schools Parent/Guardian,

Following on from our communication yesterday we can now confirm that Gilbert Public Schools has met the data benchmarks in two of the three Arizona Department of Health Services and Maricopa County Health metrics, to be in the “red - substantial spread” for two consecutive weeks.  To view this data please click here.  Following the approved Governing Board motion of November 4, 2020, Gilbert Public Schools will now move to a temporary hybrid-learning model district-wide beginning Monday, December, 7, until the end of this semester.  Further updates will be provided regarding the beginning of the next semester once decisions are made.

This decision has been made based on the data and guidance provided to us by both Arizona Department of Health Service (ADHS) and Maricopa County Health (MCH).  At this time, the number of COVID-19 cases within our community continues to rise. Moving temporarily to a hybrid instructional delivery model is a preventative measure, designed as an additional mitigation strategy to prevent further spread of COVID-19 within our community.  At all times our goal is to promote the health and safety of our students, staff and community, while delivering high-quality education for all of our students. Please be assured that our teachers, administrators and support staff are ready to support all of our students to continue their education during this time.

The hybrid model allows for:

  • fewer students in classrooms and on campus.
  • greater opportunities for physical distancing in our classrooms and on school buses.
  • increased opportunities for enhanced cleaning procedures, including on Wednesdays when no students are on campus.
  • a response that promotes health and safety for both students and staff after reaching “substantial spread” status within our district boundaries as per Maricopa County Health data and while the number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise.

During the period of hybrid learning the following students will be on campus on the following days:

  • Mondays and Thursdays - Last name A-L
  • Tuesday and Fridays - Last name M-Z
  • Wednesdays - All students will learn virtually

Please note if your student qualifies for and receives Level C Special Education services,  they will continue to attend campus four days a week (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays) during the period of hybrid services. This also applies to the alternative learning programs at Canyon Valley School and RISE Jr. High School. 

Transportation to EVIT from GPS schools will continue during hybrid learning, all five days.  On Wednesdays, students will need to get to their high school on their own in order to take the bus to EVIT. 

Your student will continue to learn with their classroom teacher(s) for both in-person instruction and virtually.  Teachers will continue with their classroom curriculum resources.  In-person students will not be moving to GPS Global Academy during temporary periods of hybrid learning.
