Governing Board Meeting - September 27, 2022
The Governing Board met for a scheduled 'Regular Board Business Meeting' on September 27, 2022. The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm.
The meeting began with Superintendent’s Recognitions, which included:

Superintendent Student Senate members - Ryan from Highland High, Kailee from Campo Verde, and Kendall from Gilbert High.

Mrs. Anne Hooden, physics teacher at Mesquite High, was recognized for her Arizona State University Helios Decision Center for Education Excellence research study participation for Mesquite High graduates earning A’s or B’s in physics courses at the university level.

Ms. Blackburn and Ms. Monreal, along with students Lauren Christensen, Evan Hankinson, Titus Wolff, and Eleanor Conrad from Campo Verde High biomed program competed amongst other AZ teams in April and placed first in the state, qualifying for the international competition in Nashville, Tennessee, where they won second place.

Jubresca Rosales from Gilbert High was recognized by the Arizona International Baccalaureate schools with the IBDP Spirit of the Year Award for the embodiment of the IB learner profile.

Jane Vela was honored for her involvement in the Gilbert leadership program and continued support, love, and dedication to Gilbert Public Schools.
The Superintendent’s Report followed, highlighting:

15 National Merit Scholarship semi-finalists in Gilbert Public Schools, Megan Bishop, Joshua Cook, Ethan Esquire, Mason Gilliland, Blake Tillotson from Highland High, Alexander Baumgardner, Mia Cruz, Connie Kang, Arturo Pacheco, Tyler Quinos, Timothy Wright, Zebo Zang from Gilbert Classical Academy, Lauren Christensen from Campo Verde High, Hunter Finn from Mesquite High, and Tyler Judd from Gilbert High.

ASU Sun Devil High Five goes to Point Elementary.

The Arizona Cardinals selected Roy Lopez, head coach of Desert Ridge High Football, as the high school coach of the week for his outstanding coaching performance last week. Mr. Lopez will receive a certificate and $2,000 for Desert Ridge High football program.

Fall break is from Monday, October 3 through Friday, October 14 with school resuming on Monday, October 17.
