This course provides students with a basic knowledge and understanding of the principles of sports medicine, the care and treatment of athletic trauma, and the use of proper conditioning principles for the prevention of injury. The purpose of this course is to build upon the student’s knowledge of anatomy. The muscular, nervous, and cardiovascular systems of the extremities and the spine will be studied in terms of location, function, tissue damage that may occur during injury as well as tissue repair during surgical procedures. Course will include the five domains of athletic training; prevention, clinical diagnosis and evaluation, immediate and emergency care, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and organization/professional health/well being.
