Essentials of English I

This course will focus on the integrated literacy skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening, and language through the continued practice of comprehending and evaluating appropriately complex texts - both literary and informational. Through a standards-based curriculum, students develop comprehension and analytical skills and will use the reading they do in class as a foundation for writing for a variety of audiences and purposes. Students will focus on how different types of text are structured and organized depending on their audience and purposes, as well as evaluating how different literary techniques are used. Class may be taken only upon teacher approval.
