Essentials of English II

This course will continue to utilize the integrated literacy skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening, and language to critically analyze a variety of fiction and nonfiction, as well as learn how to adapt the form and content of their writing and speaking to accomplish a particular task and purpose. There will be a focus on teaching students how the makeup of an audience should affect tone, how the choice of words affects meaning, and how to combine different elements—for example, using narrative strategies within argument and explanation within narrative—to produce complex and nuanced communications in writing. Class may be taken only upon teacher approval.
