This course explores a detailed studies approach to works written in English in which students examine a variety of genres and themes. It builds off the foundational skills established in Pre-IB and/or Honors English 1. Communication skills, research skills, self-management skills, and thinking skills will be emphasized in order to prepare students for the rigorous IB Diploma Programme. The course will promote student centered instruction and inquiry based lessons. Information literacy, media literacy, and collaboration will be heavily emphasized. Other course skills focus upon close reading techniques, rhetorical analysis, written literary analysis and oral presentations. Literary pieces include Greek, British, and American classics as well as works written by modern authors from a variety of backgrounds. Through a variety of literary genres, students will examine international works for themes, cultural influences, and the human experience. Literary analysis, social criticism and comparative analysis will also be emphasized. Summer reading lists are available in the back of the course description book.
