This course will include an overview of the American system of government. Course content includes: foundations of American democracy; interactions among the branches of government; civil liberties and civil rights; American political ideologies and beliefs; and political participation. Because inquiry is the cornerstone in the study of history and the social sciences, students will develop and utilize skills in the same context as historians and social scientists. These skills will include analyzing primary and secondary sources, reasoning and contextualization, causation, continuity and change over time, and argumentation. This course is designed to prepare students to successfully complete the Advanced Placement Exam in May.
