This two-year comprehensive course is designed to build upon the foundations learned in Honors Chemistry. The course will help students to analyze and interpret data along with building experimental techniques and in the design of experiments. Topics include stoichiometry, atomic theory, periodicity, bonding and structure, thermochemistry, kinetics, equilibrium, acid/base chemistry, redox reactions, organic chemistry, and measurement and data processing. Higher-level chemistry requires 60 hours additional time in the above topics along with 25 hours in one of the following additional topics: materials, biochemistry, energy, or medicinal chemistry. The course involves keeping a data booklet along with 60 hours of laboratory time to include 10 hours for individual investigation (IA) and 10 hours for group 4 project. This course is designed to prepare students to successfully complete the IB Exam.
