Junior High Promotion Requirements

Seventh and eighth-grade students will be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credits a year in the required basic curriculum. 

In the seventh grade, one (1) credit will be earned in each of the following areas:

• English Language Arts
• Math
• Science
• History and Social Sciences
• Reading or Physical Education (Reading course required for students minimally proficient in reading)
• Additional Elective

In the eighth grade, one (1) credit will be earned in each of the following areas:

• English Language Arts
• Math
• Science
• History and Social Sciences
• Additional Elective
• Additional Elective

One-half (1/2) credit will be earned for each semester’s work successfully completed in each area, as demonstrated by a passing grade.

A maximum of two (2) credits per year can be earned through successful completion of the offered electives.

Junior high students at Gilbert Classical Academy will be expected to take the four (4) core courses at the honors level, and 2 additional elective courses of their choosing.

• English: Honors English 7
• History and Social Sciences: Honors History and Social Sciences 7
• Elective 1
  • Choose One: Physical Education, Performing Arts, or World Languages (Latin or Spanish)

8th Grade

• Science: Honors Science 8

• History and Social Sciences: Honors History and Social Sciences 8
