What is the Seal of Biliteracy?

The Arizona State Seal of Biliteracy program recognizes high school students who have demonstrated proficiency in English and at least one additional language at the time of graduation.

To be eligible, students must meet the following requirements by the time they graduate:

  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale in all their English Language Arts coursework from grades 9-12.
  • Attain a passing score on an English Language Assessment approved by the Arizona State Board of Education.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in one additional language through an assessment adopted by the Arizona Department of Education.
Note: Students are responsible for their own testing arrangements and any associated exam fees; World Languages teachers or school administrators may be available to help facilitate the process.

For more information on the Seal of Biliteracy

To earn the seal, interested seniors must complete the Intent to Participate Form before spring break.

Since scores may be received after you graduate and have to be verified, the Seal will be noted on your diploma and transcript up to 90 days after graduation.
