ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) Testing
General Information About Military Academies
There are five service academies:
- U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York
- U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland
- U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs
- U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York
- U.S. Coast Guard Academy at New London, Connecticut
In addition to submitting an online application for nomination, it is also your responsibility to complete and submit the admissions application to your academy or academies of choice prior to their listed deadline in order to ensure that the institution(s) opens an admissions file for you. - The U.S. Coast Guard Academy no longer requires a Congressional nomination for appointment. Applications must, therefore, be made directly to the Academy.
Air Force Junior Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC)
The mission of Air Force Junior ROTC is to "Develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community." Air Force Junior ROTC is not an USAF accessions program and cadets are never under any obligation to join the military. Air Force Junior ROTC is a Title 10 US Code mandated citizenship training program that is designed to educate and train high school cadets in citizenship, promote community service, instill personal responsibility, character, and self-discipline. The program achieves this through classroom education in air and space fundamentals and hands on learning opportunities in a number of fun and challenging extra-curricular activities.
Students involved in the Aerospace Science and Leadership Air Force Junior Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) have unique opportunities to explore industrial and military aerospace science and technology while developing leadership skills. Our program includes the study of the heritage and development of flight, exploration of aircraft and spacecraft environments as well as coursework in military customs, courtesies, flag etiquette, time management, effective communication and much more.

AFJROTC (Air Force Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps)
The JROTC (Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps) Air Force program is an immersive and comprehensive educational initiative designed to instill leadership and citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community. This program, affiliated with the United States Air Force, provides a structured and challenging curriculum that combines academic coursework with practical leadership experiences. Components of the program include leadership, physical fitness, community involvement, civic engagement, character development and career exploration. The program is not only an educational experience but also a journey of personal growth, character development, and preparation for a successful future.

Air Force Junior Officer Training Corps
Upon successful completion of two-years of AFJROTC courses, the District requirement for Physical Education will be waived. Books and uniforms will be supplied at no cost. Students will be required to wear uniforms at least one day per week. Completion of three years of JROTC will allow a student to enlist in any branch of the Armed Services at an advanced pay grade. Many ROTC scholarships will be available to JROTC high school students. NO MILITARY OBLIGATION WILL BE INCURRED.
What's in it for me?
- There is no military commitment when you enroll in AFJROTC.
- AFJROTC cadets have an opportunity to earn scholarships.
- AFJROTC cadets may have an advantage when competing for appointments to the U.S. Air Force Academy and the other service academies.
- Cadets who complete 3 years of JROTC and enlist in the military qualify for higher pay.
- AFJROTC courses qualify for the CTE/Fine Arts elective credit (required for entrance to AZ colleges) and two years of JROTC credit will receive the required 1.0 credit of Physical Education.
- Cadets earn medals, ribbons, trophies, plaques and other awards based on scholarship, military bearing, appearance, and community service.
- AFJROTC uniforms, insignia, medals, ribbons and textbooks are provided at no cost (provided they are returned in good condition).
- Members of the Drill Team/ Color Guard teams travel to compete against other units.
- Each semester cadets go on field trips to military bases or other points of interest.
- Cadets can attend all extracurricular activities: Combat Dining In, Dining out, softball tournament, Military Ball, and Awards ceremony…We have a lot of FUN!
- Cadets gain leadership experience and self-confidence by working in leadership positions in the cadet corps.
- One day each week cadets participate in Physical Training (PT), which includes warm up exercises, running, and various sporting activities.
